Bicolor sunflowers are an explosion of color – quick and bright aptly named Firecracker. This short sunflower is one of the earliest to flower in the garden and has yellow and red bicolor flowers. Plants are loaded with branches. It truly looks like a July 4th fireworks display when it is in full flower.
Sunflowers say “summer” like no other plant. heavy heads filled with seeds. Sunflowers (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant with a large daisy-like flower face. Its scientific name comes from the Greek words helios (“sun”) and anthos (“flower”). The flowers come in many colors (yellow, red, orange, maroon, brown) but they are commonly bright yellow with brown centers that ripen into burgundy. Moulin Rouge is pollenless and will produce several blooms per stalk. Great as a cut flower, central bloom and smaller side blooms will bring the beauty from the outside in.
This is a bloom from a field in Lititz, PA. They had almost 20 different types of sunflowers.
