Description
The Portland Head Lighthouse shown in black and white. It was a cloudy day when I visited which made for great dramatic skies.
Portland Head Light was built in 1791. Commissioned by George Washington and dedicated by the Marquis de Lafayette, it is the state's oldest lighthouse. Portland Head has a white conical tower and a Victorian keeper's house with a red roof and eyebrow eves on the porch. You can visit the museum in the former keeper's house, which sits in Fort Williams Park, off Shore Road in Cape Elizabeth.
